- A U Pickem Blueberry Farm
June 29, 2017

Hello from the Patch,

Well I said earlier that Mother Nature fooled us and we didn't lose the 80% of the field I thought we had, not so. Due to early bud break and a late freeze, we are finding that all our late varieties are coming in with bad fruit. That being said WE WILL NOT BE AT OUR STAND LOCATIONS STARTING TODAY AND THE FIELD WILL BE CLOSED IMMEDIATELY FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON.

This was not an easy decision to make, but I have always said that our mission is to sell the best blueberries in the area and we will not sell what is coming in on our bushes. We now have decisions to make as to how we will proceed going forward.

Farming is not easy and the weather patterns we have had the last two years is making it harder to grow certain products, apples, cherries and small fruits are heavily dependent on normal weather patterns. Whatever our decision is we appreciate the support and business that each and everyone of you have shown us.

Please share this, so we can get the word out to as many folks as possible. Thanks,

Deer Haven blueberry patch was planted in the spring of 2011.  We are located in Carroll County in southwest Virginia on 15 acres of rural mountain land. Our patch was developed on one acre of that land and was planted with 985 two year old plants that consist of five varieties:  Duke, Patriot, Blueray, Bluecrop and Nelson. These varieties are known to produce large, juicy and sweet berries. We nurtured our babies for the first two years, mulching, weeding, irrigating, and pulling blooms to defeat fruiting and ensure a strong root system going forward. We opened the field for picking in 2013. Our picking season is expected to start in mid-June and run through early August.

It is recommended that you call us at 276-730-4047 prior to driving up to check on availability and picking times.

We would also ask that you register on our Contact Form page, so we can email you updates on the field. We will email coupons to those that do.

We also recommend that you have a hat, sunscreen and closed toe shoes when you come.
We have containers for you to use or you can bring your own.
We look forward to seeing and meeting you at our patch.
